Demo at Serenity Drive

A few weeks ago I wrote a post with all of the “before” pictures of my parent’s new fixer upper! I promised you updated pictures, so here we are! A lot of demo has happened over at Serenity Drive. My parents closed on November 17, started demo on the 21st, and I can say I am amazed at how different it looks five weeks later. Let’s look at some before and after shots!

Take a look at one of the biggest transformation to date! Bye bye wall, hello beautiful beam! We’re lucky enough that my uncle is actually a contractor, so he was able to get this beam put up. My dad plans to wrap it with wood so they have a beautiful focal point that separates the kitchen and living room.

Enjoy this video of my husband knocking this wall out like a CHAMP!

In the picture above, I’m standing in the living room, looking back through two guest bedrooms, all the way to the back of the house. When my parents bought this house, they weren’t planning on taking down all of the plaster. However, after thinking about it, it made sense to take it all down due to the amount of walls and windows that need to be moved.

This project is exciting for me because this was all me … and of course my dad. My mom watched Emery for a few hours so my dad and I could knock this project out. I took the above picture standing in the dining room, shooting right through a bedroom, two bathrooms and the master bedroom.

Today’s Progress

This past week when my husband was off work, he helped my dad remove multiple layers of subfloor, floor joists and interior walls. They were preparing for when the staircase and guest bathroom will be moved. Now when you walk in the house from the basement, its a straight shot looking upstairs.

Next Steps

This house is getting all new windows, which arrived last week. This will likely be a long project, but it’s one of the next things my dad will need to tackle with help of my contractor uncle. They’re also planning on moving the stairs soon so that we can work on framing out the new guest bathroom and laundry room. Now that demo is starting to come to an end, it is SUPER exciting to start moving toward the rebuilding.

Thanks for following along. If you’re really starting to think my parents are crazy for this massive project, enjoy this preview of their property. It is worth it – I promise!
